Amy Oak and Barb Pitcher live near Muskegon, Michigan and are the founders and teachers at Frame Drums of Cybele. They have participated regularly in the Ontario Womyn's Drum Camp. They will do a presentation on our frame drum tradition before Christianity and new spiritual contexts today. Amy will also facilitate a workshop on using our drum for with meditation. Barb will lead the Beginner & Refresher Stream workshop.
Deborah Tate Breault lives in Portland, Maine. She is one of the original members of Layne's 'Mob of Angels'. She has drummed in worship for decades and on pilgrimages with John Dominique Crossan and Marcus Borg. She is designing our rituals and ceremony and will facilitate a workshop on the intermediate and Advanced level techniques.
A student of Layne Redmond, Maria Bovin de Labbé, lives in Norway. A recognized artist and a professional percussionist, Maria facilitates “When the Drummers Were Women” events, and teaches. She will talk about Layne and the ancient Goth frame drum, “the oval shaped drums… burned in an attempt to diminish their power and connection.” She will share how women experience drumming during pregnancy and her development of Mindful Drumming, formally recognized by The Norwegian Association of Music Therapy.
Judith Wouk lives in Ottawa, Canada. She will share with us Jewish perspectives on reclaiming the frame drum tradition for the home and synagogue, past and present.
